Recipes
Braxton Purifoy, Food Editor
Hello, I'm originally from Alabama and was raised on traditional Southern cooking and discovered new cuisines when I moved to Louisiana in 1970. Prior to that, Shrimp Creole was about as exotic as we ever had at our table. Now that I've got the hang of Cajun/Creole cooking, comfort food has again become very popular and I've discovered many fine old recipes thanks to cooking shows on TV and recipes on the Internet. My collection of cookbooks has grown, in part, from gifts, great finds at garage sales, and shopping at book stores. But, I still use those great recipes handed down from my relatives, as I'm sure many of you do, too.
So, let's share an accumulation of treasured recipes with our Broadmoor neighbors! Send one of your favorites, healthy or not, so we can all enjoy ourselves.
- Cajun Potato Salad is the Broadmoor's Best Potato Salad Contest Winner at our 2010 BBQ/Potluck Party on July 17, 2010. Thanks to Gerald Hubenak for submitting the recipe for this great tasting salad!
- Ginger Ice Cream is an interesting way to spice up homemade ice cream.
- Mushrooms in Happy Sauce are great to have as an appetizer, to go on top of steaks, or as a side dish with any meal. They can be baked inside in the oven or on the grill in a big skillet - Ginger Trigg
- Summer Squash Casserole is a fine old recipe served everywhere for generations.
Reminiscences
Old Sugar Mill
(5/28/08) I'm just starting to research a story about an old sugar mill that was located on the property between Chateau and Regency Drives. Does the association know either the name of the mill or who owned it? I have calls in to the archives at LSU and Tulane (they have all the sugar records of our state).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This weekend I plan on trying to talk to a couple of the older people in the neighborhood.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks to our supporters - Broadmoor UMC and Broadmoor HS
We want to thank the organizations that help to make our association's work possible year in and year out. The Broadmoor United Methodist Church has provided meeting space for us for many years and we very much appreciate there doing so! In 2007, we asked Broadmoor High School to let us use their courtyard for our Annual Junque Sale and they agreed. Thanks to their support, we were able to raise funds in 2007 for beautification projects, and in 2008 for replacing a damaged sign on Goodwood Boulevard.
