Communications Committee

Hello, and thanks for your interest in our Communications Committee. According the our association by-laws, this committee is responsible for publishing the newsletter, managing the web site, and maintaining our telephone Hotline. In addition we are responsible for other Internet programs, email notifications and are also tasked with putting out meeting signs each month to publicize our 3rd Monday meetings. Thanks to our board members who'll be doing most of that work this year.

It has been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience serving as your Webmaster and committee chairman. Our former Treasurer, Cass Moret, created our first web page while also serving as Treasurer, and was instrumental in my joining the association and taking on the Webmaster's duties in 2008. Last year, I was asked to head the Communications Committee and to edit the newsletter. As chairman, I work with the board of directors to achieve a cohesive and coordinated communications effort.

Newsletter & Web Page

In 2008, our web page and this newsletter were redesigned and branded as The Broadmoor Breeze. Both were well received and continue to be very popular with our members and residents of Baton Rouge. For the 11 month period ending 2/28/10, we had 12,917 visitors to the web site who looked at 40,616. The stats are illustrated in the table below. Our newsletter was published 3 times in 2009 and will return to our regular schedule of 4 issues this year, barring anymore natural disasters. It is mailed to approximately 2100 recipients. Recent and older PDF versions can be downloaded here.

New pages on our web site include Neighborhood Watch and The Broadmoor Crime Prevention and Improvement District (BCPID). Both will be expanded as these important new undertakings move along. I encourage you to join NW and to become familiar with and support the BCPID endeavor.

A recently renamed and expanded page is the Broadmoor Boulevard that was previously known as Broadmoor People. I hope everyone will enjoy it and contribute to the content.

This table illustrates the number of visitors (Visits) to our site and the number of pages (Pages) viewed. It is updated monthly. The latest month's numbers are usually for a partial month.

Hotline Number 926-9829

Recently, changes were made to our telephone Hotline 926-9829 that include new features and additional voice mailboxes to make it easier for us to respond to your phone messages. The Hotline number is the same, but you'll hear a new recording with the option of hearing several other messages from our Committee Chairpersons, or you can leave a message. The new service costs a lot less and hopefully will be utilized more as we promote the number and expand the information that is available to callers.

Email Notifications

Several times each month, emails are sent to all residents who have given us an email address - either on their membership form, or by signing up for Neighborhood Watch. Email reminders are sent to everyone on our list a few days before each monthly meetings, and are also sent many times during the month for special announcements about lost or found pets, crime alerts and other important news. Send your address information if you aren't getting these announcements.

Advertising

Advertising is an important part of our overall communications program and our former Advertising Committee Chairman John Perkins is to be congratulated for his outstanding efforts in signing advertisers, many of whom are with us for a fourth year in 2010. If you would like to advertise in our newsletter or know of others who may be interested, please visit the Advertising Committee page for specifics. All newsletter advertisers are automatically included in our web site at no additional charge.

All revenues from advertising go to defray printing and mailing costs for the newsletter.
