LITTER COURT ANNOUNCEMENT

(8/24/09) - East Baton Rouge Parish property owners have a choice — clean up or pay up.

That’s the message behind the city-parish’s new litter court, which kicks off today.

The program targets trash, debris, illegal signs, overgrown lots and neglected swimming pools in an effort to curb blighted property.

Code enforcement officers with the Office of Neighborhoods and Department of Public Works will be out in full force looking for violations proactively and via complaint, said Mary Fontenot, director of the Office of Neighborhoods. More . . .

POLICE TARGET HABITUAL PARKING VIOLATORS

EBR Parking Regulations Are Being Enforced

(8/24/09)  The Broadmoor Residents' Association Board of Directors voted several months ago in favor of asking our EBR Police patrol to vigorously enforce parking regulations in Broadmoor. We continue to receive frequent legitimate complaints about residents who routinely have cars, truck, boats and trailers in their yards or on the street in violation of EBR Parking Regulations. The board has routinely responded to individual complaints by dispatching the police patrol to issue warnings and citations, but the problem does not go away and has become a real problem for some neighborhoods. The new enforcement policy began in August, and will not be dictated by individual complaints but will be enforced routinely throughout Broadmoor. However, if you have an address for the police patrol to check, please call our Hotline at 926-9829 or send us an EMAIL.

Parking in yards degrades the appearance of your property, decreases the value of your home and your neighbor's property, and is in violation of EBR parking ordinances and Broadmoor deed restrictions. Parking on the street longer than permitted, in violation of ordinances, also degrades the neighborhood and in many instances creates traffic safety hazards.

We have notified all residents regarding this enforcement policy in our newsletter. Our Good Neighbor Parking Program will be communicated using email, our web page, and newsletters with details regarding regulations and policies.

In the meantime, please do not park any vehicle or trailer on the grass in your front yard, or next to your driveway, house or carport in violation of the EBR "dust laws". Exceptions are made for infrequent overnight guests or special events. The police will be targeting repeat violators who routinely park in the grass. All single family homes are required by law to have enough paved parking for the occupant's vehicles on a regular basis. Many homeowners have widened their paved driveways or added small gravelled side extensions to accommodate extra parking, and we encourage this solution.

  -  No parking on the grass in the front yard between the front of the residence and the street

  -  No parking on street for a period of time longer than nine (9) hours of any twenty-four-hour period beginning at 6 AM of one day to 6 AM of the next day

  -  No parking in the drive or in a yard between the residence and the street
    - Wreckers
    - Buses for hire (excluding school buses used primarily for transporting children)
    - Trucks or semitrailers with more than two (2) axles or with a payload capacity in excess of 2,000 pounds

  -  No parking of any motor home, house trailer, or commercial vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of ten thousand (10,000) pounds or more, for a period of seventy-two (72) hours or more.

ENTERGY CREWS NEED YOUR COOPERATION

Board Member Glenda Foster reports that when there is a storm such as we had recently and your power is off in the morning, residents should leave their gates, etc., UNLOCKED so Entergy crews can get to what they need to repair in your yard, OR stay home to give them access to the public utilities servitude that adjoins the rear of your property.

This "public service request" is being issued as a result of Entergy crews not being able to get to their power lines in servitudes which caused great delay in some cases. According to Entergy crews brought in from out of town to assist US in OUR need, a couple of locked gates impacted approximately 400 Entergy households but they finally found a work-around.

Thank you to the "Guys from Gretna" with Entergy.
